My Place in Finland: Forest Talk

  • Cooperative 3E (Funkkis, 2nd floor) 1 Opistokatu Vaasa, Pohjanmaa, 65100 Finland (map)

Today we’ll talk about the forests in Finland.

Forests are an important part of the Finnish mental landscape and our most important natural resource. In other words, by exploring forest you can learn a lot about this society.

During the meeting we’ll be discussing forest as cultural heritage, forests’ importance for biodiversity, forests as an economic commodity and an object for political debate as well as forests as places of relaxation and well-being.

The meeting is followed by a full-day trip to Rajavuori outdoor area in Laihia on the 28th of September, where we will focus on forests’ well-being benefits, foraging, and discuss the role and meaning of sauna in the Finnish culture.

Kindly note, that you can only register on the trip in case you’ll participate also in the Forest Talk meeting.

My Place in Finland is a learning journey designed for adult migrants who wish to understand the society and its people better. The two-part Forest Place is one of the five places we are exploring during this journey.
