In the grassroots circular economy groups we’ll learn and share skills, and put the principles of circular economy in practice by developing and testing our own community-level ideas.
Grassroots circular economy groups are participatory action groups that function on community level in different sub-urbs and villages in Vaasa and in Mustasaari. Currently there are two groups, one in Palosaari and one in Ristinummi.
In the community group meetings we focus on learning more about how to use circular economy and eco-design principles in our daily lives, as well as develop and test our own grassroots level solutions to sustainability challenges. The community group members decide together, what sub-theme is the most interesting for them, and what they would like to focus working on.
Groups are multilingual using English as the joint language, but also Finnish and Swedish are spoken – we’ll take shared responsibility of helping each other out with translation when necessary.
Everyone has a skill to share ─ we are warmly welcoming you to join one of the community groups!

FASHION & TEXTILES Palosaari’s community group members are actively engaging in meaningful discussions and peer-learning on sustainability in fashion and textiles. The group has also brainstormed and developed some local grassroots level solutions for tackling textile waste, which was identified by the group as one of the most significant issues. The group meets bi-weekly on Tuesday evenings at 17:00-19:00 in Setlementti (Huvilakatu 1), and is welcoming new members! You may join the WhatsApp group to follow group’s discussion & gain more information OR email Kirsi.
GROWING SKILLS & PLANTS Ristinummi’s upcoming community group will focus on growing skills, plants and well-being. We’ll be growing food, but also other plants to explore and test circular economy principles in our daily lives. Themes will vary from eco-friendly clothing and textiles to community well-being. The group will meet every second Monday at 10:00-12:00 by Setlementti’s kyläkeskus. We are starting on 30th of September!
