My Place in Finland: Active People

  • Cooperative 3E (Funkkis, 2 floor) 1 Opistokatu Vaasa, Pohjanmaa, 65100 Finland (map)

Civil society consists of people who are voluntarily acting for a common cause. People take part in civil society activities because they want to make a difference, participate, learn and help.

This stop on our My Place in Finland journey focuses on active citizenship. We’ll figure out what does active citizen mean, how to become one and how could it be beneficial for our well-being and belonging?

During the Active People meeting we’ll be discussing the state of Finnish civil society, like for example how involved people are with non-profits and associations, what kind of volunteering are people doing, and what kind of rules, regulation and support are there for citizen activities.

We’ll also play a small game for testing different ways for participation and taking action in Finland.

The meeting is followed by a Citizen Participation Walk. We’ll be starting from Palosaari, continue through the Vaasa city center, and end with a shared coffee & tea moment in our cozy office.

My Place in Finland is a learning journey designed for adult migrants who wish to understand the society and its people better. The two-part Meeting place is one of the five places we are exploring during this journey.
