Reading “My Beautiful Pond”

  • Vaasan kaupunginkirjasto (Matilda) 13 Kirjastonkatu Vaasa, Pohjanmaa, 65100 Finland (map)

Matata is a very happy little elephant who loves to play in mud ponds. One day, everything in Maasai land where Matata lives with his mother, changes. The land dries, all plants wither, and his favourite pond disappeares.

Matata’s mother is forced to leave him behind, when she starts walking far away to find water. What happens next, that we’ll find out together!

All small children and their parents are invited to enjoy this story together. We will be reading the book in English in Matilda, located on the first floor of the main library. After the reading, we’ll invite everyone to join some creative activities.

My beatiful Pond is co-written by Minna Komulainen and Wendy Luvinga-Heinoja, and illustrated by Özge Deniz Taştan.

Wendy Luvinga-Heinoja is a Tanzanian author living in Finland. Her first book, Hamisi the complaining Lizard (2016), tells the story of a beautiful and talented lizard, who does not understand and appreciate his charm and uniqueness until he encounters the danger in the African wilds and discovers his true potential.

The event is part of Lifting Minority Stories project funded by the Nordic Culture Point.
